spec for my C: drive.
When I boot from the DOS3 floppy I get the change/accept date and time
option then my normal A> prompt.
Using sys C: on a clean unformatted C: disk gives the drive spec.
error.
Ah I forgot the fdisk/format stage!

Post by Esra SdrawkcabC primary partition must be less than 32M for DOS 3.3 to see it. (you
can create more secondary ones, using up the alphabet, but these too
must be 32M or less)
*** I had forgotten about that.
Post by Esra SdrawkcabPost by Julian CannHeh ho what fun. To be honest it isn't critical as I am just going
through a major retro phase and installing earlier and earlier versions
of DOS/Windows purely for the intellectual pleasure. Maybe I have met my
Waterloo with DOS3?
*** Keep trying. It is an educational experience to get those versions
running. Using them will give you a basis for today's versions.

Yes you are so right. My computing life started with Win95 with a very
small amount of DOS.
I am currently running all these retro loads on MS Virtual PC and I am
learning so much about the DOS/Windows evolution.
To date I have fully functional loads of DOS5 (Inc. Word and DOSSHELL),
DOS6.22, Win2.03, Win3.11, Win95, Win2000, Vista and Ubuntu 7.10.
I started to try Dos3.3 as I was going to use it for installing Win2.03
which now resides on DOS5. It is fascinating to chart the progress of
Windows starting with DOSSHELL onwards.
I am also doing a tutorial on Qbasic and having a lot of fun.
My biggest achievement has probably been getting Win3.11 set up with
full internet access, Calmira GUI, browsers, email, photoshop, Coreldraw
etc. etc. and it runs very well. I am impressed.
However I shall persevere with DOS3 and I am taking in all your good
advice.....thank you guys.
I guess my next step is to source an old box and run this stuff for
real! Hmm that could be hard to find.
